Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of hair-fine needles into specific points in the body to help stimulate the flow of one’s Qi (pronounces chee) or natural healing energies. Acupuncturists work to relieve obstructions in energy channels that interrupt the flow of energy in the body. Applying needles to the acupuncture points releases chemicals in the nervous system that help to moderate pain and to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities. While considered a non-traditional treatment in western medicine, acupuncture has been practiced in China and Korea for thousands of years.
Acupuncture has been endorsed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as an appropriate treatment for pain and nausea. It also may be useful as an adjunct treatment, an acceptable alternative or be included in a comprehensive management program for addiction, stroke rehabilitation, headache, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and asthma.
In California, licensed acupuncturists are considered Primary Care physicians.
InYoung is a licensed acupuncturist trained in sports medicine, neuro-meridian integrative acupuncture as well as traditional Chinese and Korean medicine.
